UCO was 27-8-3 and won three straight Oklahoma Collegiate Championships in football during Barnard’s career, with the two–way and earning All-Conference honors in 1934, ’36 and ’37.  He was an All-American pick in 1937 and went on to play one season for the New York Giants in the NFL.

Barnard played on UCO basketball teams that went 48-39 during fours, topped by a 17-6 team in 1937-38 that made the school’s first-ever national tournament appearance, losing in the second round of the NAIA national championships.

Hap enjoyed an outstanding track career, leading the team in points scored three times.  He guided the Bronchos to four straight conference titles, earning best all around athlete honors as a freshman after placing in five events, wining two.

Barnard was a UCO’s freshman Athlete of the Year in 1935 and co-senior Athlete of the Year in 1938.
