R.L. Briggs enjoyed a stellar four-year career for the Bronchos from 1961-64 as a starting fullback.  He ranks third in career rushing at UCO with 3,208 yards, an average of 5.1 yards a carry, and is second in scoring with 211 points.

Briggs rushed for 524 yards and five TDs as a freshman in 1961 despite missing half the season to a knee injury, then came back in 1962 to help guide UCO to the NAIA national championships.

Briggs rushed 179 times for 1,126 yards and 16 TDs to ear first-team All-Oklahoma Collegiate Conference honors in addition to MVP recognition in 1962.  He had scoring runs of 94 and 96 yards during the regular season and rushed for 151 yards and two TDs in UCO’s first-round playoff win over College of Emporia.

R.L. carried 163 times for 743 yards and six scores in 1963 then finished his career in 1964 by rushing for 815 yards and eight touchdowns to earn second-team All-America accolades.

Briggs was drafted in the 10th round of the NFL draft by Washington and played one season at running back for the Redskins.
