Jones was a four-year letterman and three-year starter for the Bronchos from 1961-64. He was a three time All-Oklahoma Collegiate Conference selection and a first team NAIA All- American in 1963 and '64.

Jones didn’t catch a pass as a freshman in 1961, but snared 23 passes for 521yards and nine touchdowns in 1962, averaging 22.7 yards a catch.  He had six catches for 150 yards with TD grabs of 28 and 62 yards in Central’s 28-13 win over Lenoir Rhyne (NC) in the NAIA national championship game, earning MVP honors in the process.

Jones came back as a junior in 1963 to catch 39 passes for 690 yards and five scores, averaging 17.7 yards a reception in earning All-America accolades.  He repeated as All-American as a senior in 1964, catching 30 passes for 519 yards and six TDs, a 17.3-yard per-catch average. 

Jones finished his career with 92 receptions for 1,730 yards and 20 TDs, averaging 18.8 yards a catch.  Jones held eight school records after his career and still holds the single season record for touchdown receptions (nine).
