Larry Wood was UCO’s first big-time basketball star, earning All-Oklahoma Collegiate Conference honors three straight years.

A 6-foot-2 forward, Wood was a second-team All-OCC pick in 1952-53 after averaging 14.8 points a game and he nabbed first-team honors in 1953-54 after netting 16.0 points a game and again in 1954-55 after averaging 24.1 points a game with one of the best seasons in school history.

Larry scored 679 points as a senior, still the fourth-best total in school history, and his 24.1 average that season is the third-best at UCO.  Wood finished his career with 1,850 points, a record that stood for 25 years and that still ranks as second-best in school history.

Wood was also a baseball and track standout, lettering four years as a high jumper and pole vaulter and starting in the outfield for three years.  Wood was named the school’s Outstanding Freshman Athlete in 1952 and was selected UCO’s Outstanding Senior Athlete in 1955.
