Charles Murdock enjoyed a lengthy association with Central, beginning as a football player in 1954 and ending with his retirement as athletic director in 1986.

A two-year letterman in 1954-55 for the Bronchos, Murdock was a second-team All-Oklahoma Collegiate Conference running back in 1954 that left Central to coach at the high school level after graduation.

He returned to UCO in 1962 as an assistant football coach, helping the Bronchos to the NAIA national championship that season, and he continued in that capacity until 1967. Murdock also served as golf, tennis, and track field coach at UCO during his career, earning District 9 Coach of the Year twice in track.

He was named athletic director in 1976 and served in that position until his retirement in 1986.  The Bronchos won a NAIA national football title, six NAIA national wrestling championships and numerous conference and district crowns during his tenure as athletic director.
