University of Central Oklahoma Athletics

Don Metheny had an immediate impact Central Oklahoma in 1949-50, lettering in baseball, basketball and football to earn the school’s Outstanding Freshman Athlete award as selected by the coaches.

Metheny concentrated on baseball and basketball his final three years at UCO, starting in both sports all three years and earning All-Oklahoma intercollegiate Conference honors twice on the hardwood.  He was named the school’s Outstanding Senior Athlete following his final season.

Don joined the coaching ranks after graduation UCO, spending decades as a baseball, basketball and football coach at U.S. Grant and Capitol Hill high schools while also serving as athletic director late in his career.
