Keni Ray was a versatile four-year starter at Central Oklahoma who saw action on both offense and defense throughout his career.

Ray started at safety in 1967 and ’68, moved to offense and took over the quarterback reigns in 1969 and moved back to safety in 1970 when he earned NAIA All-America honors.

Ray also ranked as one of the nation’s most prolific punt returners while at UCO, averaging a school-record 14.1 yards a return during his career.  He finished his career with school records for punt return yards in a game (120), season, (491), and career (832), records that stood until the 1999 season.

Keni had three interceptions and two fumble recoveries as a freshman in 1967 and eight interceptions with two fumble recoveries as a sophomore in 1968 while adding 24 punt returns for 328 yards (13.7 average).  He quarterbacked UCO to an 8-1-1 record in 1969, completing 57-of-102 passes for 731 yards and seven touchdowns while adding 105 rushes for 363 yards and three TDs.

Ray returned to safety in 1970 and had three interceptions as the Bronchos went 9-2.  He also had 33 punt returns for 491 yards (14.9 average) and 10 kickoff returns for 242 yards (24.2 average).
