Dax Johnson had an immediate impact on the Bronchos after coming to UCO in the fall of 1995 and became the school’s first national golf champion in the spring of 1996 when he captured the NCAA Division II title at Edmond’s Oak Tree Country Club.

Johnston started his collegiate career at Oklahoma and was a two-year starter who played on two-national tournament teams for the Sooners before transferring to UCO in 1995. He had a 72.3 stroke average in 1995-96, wining the national championship and one other tournament while also finishing second in three events to claim Division II Player of the Year honors.

Johnston also won the Oklahoma State Amateur in the summer of 1996 and was the only Divisoin II representative on a United Sates college team that played Japan.

Johnston came back as a senior in 1996-97 and again earned first-team All-America honors, overcoming a shoulder injury that knocked him our the three spring tournaments to finish with a 72.0 average. He claimed three tournament titles and was runner-up in three others that year.

Dax ended his phenomenal two-year UCO career with a 72.1 average.  He placed in the top five in 15 of 19 tournaments with five titles and six second-place finishes.
