Alfred Murrell came to the Bronchos as a freshman in 1963 after leading Moton High School in Taft, Okla. to three high school state titles and started four straight years as a 6-foot-5 center.

Murrell averaged 8.6 points and 5.9 rebounds a game as a rookie in 1963-64 in helping UCO go 24-4 in making it to the NAIA national tournament and he came back to average 15.1 points and 8.5 rebounds the following season to earn second-team All-Oklahoma Intercollegiate Conference honors.

Alfred was a first-team OIC selection his last two years with the Bronchos, averaging 17.3 points and 9.8 rebounds a game as a junior and 17.9 points and 10.2 rebounds as a senior when he also received third-team All-America recognition. 

Murrell ranks fourth in career rebounds (835) and eighth in career points (1,420) at UCO, averaging 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds for his 98-game career.  He was drafted by the St. Louis Hawks of the NBA in 1967 and went on to play five years in the Continental Basketball League.
