Bronchos Fall To SBU

EDMOND (April 25) – Central Oklahoma's home woes continued Saturday at Wendell Simmons Field as the Bronchos dropped two tough games to Southwest Baptist.

UCO fell 9-8 in the completion of Friday's game that suspended by rain in the top of the eighth inning and then dropped a 10-8 decision in the nightcap.  The Bronchos are just 4-13 at home and have lost 15 games by one or two runs this season, including four straight.

Central, now 18-25 on the year and 13-20 in the league, closes the season Sunday with a 12 p.m. doubleheader against the Bearcats.

The Bronchos had a 7-1 lead after five innings of Friday's series opener, but SBU came back to tie it with three runs in the sixth and three in the seventh before the game was stopped.  The Bearcats took up where they left off when play resumed Saturday, scoring twice in the eighth to go up 9-7.

UCO got a run back in its half of the eighth when Dylan Raper ripped a pinch-hit double down the right field line, advanced to third on a balk and scored on Dilon Argo's groundout.

The Bronchos threatened in their final at bat after Dylan Tinkler banged a one-out double off the center field wall and pinch-runner Austin Stewart took third on a wild pitch, but a strikeout and fly out ended the game.

UCO finished with 14 hits, getting three each from Tyler Hatcher and Josh Ingram.

The Bronchos got an RBI double from Jake O'Brien in the first and a run-scoring groundout from Ingram in the second to take a 2-0 lead in the next game, but SBU went in front 4-2 after its half of the fifth.

UCO answered with five runs in the bottom of that frame to move in front 7-4 as Hatcher looped a three-run double to left-center and Jacob Borrego sliced a two-run single to right, but the lead wouldn't hold up.

The Bearcats scored five of their own in the seventh to go ahead 9-7 and then counted Tinkler's solo home run with a single run in the top of the ninth to hand UCO another disappointing setback.

Hatcher led an eight-hit attack with a 2-for-4, three-RBI performance, but SBU pounded four pitchers for 16 hits.
