O'Brien Lifts UCO To Dramatic Win

HAYS, Kan. (Feb. 14) – Jake O'Brien ripped a two-run single in the top of the 12th inning to break a 4-4 tie and lift Central Oklahoma to a 6-4 victory over Colorado School of Mines here Saturday night on the second day of the Fort Hays State Festival.
 
Tanner Ferrell followed O'Brien's go-ahead hit by striking out the side in the bottom of the 12th to secure the win in a game that ended with a wind chill temperature of 12 degrees.
 
"Those were some tough conditions tonight for both teams," head coach Dax Leone said.  "I'm happy for our players and assistant coaches.  We still aren't playing clean baseball, but you can't do better than a win."
 
It was the first win of the season for the Bronchos, now 1-4.  UCO's Sunday game against Regis has been cancelled.
 
Dylan Tinkler reached on an error to start the 12th, Josh Ingram followed with a single and Brad McDonald walked to load the bases before O'Brien's base hit up the middle pushed across two runs for what proved to be the game-winning runs.
 
UCO led 3-0 after three innings, but the Miners tied it with one run in the fifth and two in the sixth. 
 
Dilon Argo's solo homer put the Bronchos on top 4-3 in the top of the eighth, but CSM came through with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings.
