Bronchos Blast Lincoln In Road Sweep

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (April 1) – Central Oklahoma rolled to a pair of runaway wins here Saturday night, outscoring Lincoln 27-0 while giving up just four total hits in a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association doubleheader.

The Bronchos blasted the Blue Tigers 15-0 in the opener and took the nightcap 12-0, scoring 11 runs in the fifth inning of the second game to break open what had been a close game.  The games were contested on Lindenwood's field due to unplayable conditions at Lincoln's park in Jefferson City, Mo.

UCO moved to 27-7 on the season and 9-3 in the conference with its third straight sweep.  The Bronchos open a six-game homestand Tuesday with a 1 p.m. non-conference twinbill against intrastate rival Cameron.

"We had a good weekend and accomplished what we came here to do," said head coach Cody White, whose team took a pair of run-rule wins from Lindenwood Friday.  "I liked the way we swung the bats and got contributions from a lot of different players both days."

UCO had 13 hits and also took advantage of five errors in the first-game rout.

Carli Jones blasted a solo home run and Mo Selman added an RBI single to give the Bronchos a 2-0 lead in the second inning before UCO erupted for seven third-inning runs to break the game open.

Brooke Zukerman laced a two-run double to get the scoring started and the Blue Tigers committed three straight errors in the frame.  Selman, Lexi Watson and Morgan Heard added RBI hits, while Ashleigh Tramel had a sacrifice fly as the Bronchos opened up a 9-0 lead.

Tori Collet belted a two-run homer, Zukerman chipped in an RBI double and Tramel had another sacrifice fly as the cushion grew to 13-0.  Tramel secured her third RBI with a single in the fifth and UCO added another run on an error to make it 15-0.

Zukerman went 3-for-3 to lead the offensive assault.

Jayden Chestnut and Jessi Walker combined for a two-hit shutout, with Chestnut giving up one hit in going the first win before Walker allowed one hit in the final two innings.  Chestnut gained the win, improving to 10-3.

Tori Collet's first-inning single scored Heard, who led off with a single and stolen base, to give UCO an early 1-0 lead in the second game and that was the only score until the Bronchos finally erupted in the fifth with 11 runs on 11 hits.

JoBi Heath had the big hit in the fifth with a three-run double, while Zukerman had a two-run single.  Heard, Heath and Jones had two hits each in the inning that saw UCO parade 15 batters to the plate.

The Bronchos finished with 15 hits, getting a 3-for-4 outing from Heard along with two hits apiece from Heath, Collet, Jones, Tramel and Selman.

Peyton Walker and Abbie Lancaster teamed up for a two-hit shutout.  Walker went the first four innings to gain the win, improving to 14-3, before Lancaster threw the fifth.
