UCO Rolls Over Lions

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (March 31) – JoBi Heath drove in seven runs and Carli Jones had six hits to spark Central Oklahoma to a pair of run-rule romps over Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rival Lindenwood here Friday.

Heath had five RBI and Jones went 3-for-4 to lead a 10-hit attack in an 11-3 first-game shellacking, with the Bronchos cruising to a 9-0 second-game shutout as Heath smacked a two-run homer while Jones had a 3-for-3 outing to pace a 12-hit assault.

UCO improved to 25-7 on the season and 7-3 in the league with the sweep.  The Bronchos stay in St. Charles Saturday to face league foe Lincoln in a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader, with those games moved from Jefferson City, Mo. because of wet grounds.

"We stayed aggressive and had another good day at the plate," head coach Cody White said.  "It was a great way to start the weekend and hopefully we can finish it off the right way tomorrow."

Heath drove in UCO's first four runs in the opener, capped by a two-run single in the fifth.

The sophomore slugger lofted a sacrifice fly in the first to score Morgan Heard, who led off with a double to left-center, and delivered a double down the left field line in the third to plate Lexi Watson, who started the inning with a walk and stolen base.

Heath keyed a two-out rally in the fifth with a two-run single to center field, with Tori Collet adding an RBI double and Jones a run-scoring single to push the lead to 6-0.

The Bronchos exploded for five runs in the sixth, highlighted by Collet's bases-loaded double.

Brooke Zukerman led off with a single through the left side, Ashleigh Tramel walked and both advanced on Mo Selman's sacrifice bunt before Watson drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly.  Back-to-back walks to Heard and Carrie Abrams loaded the bases for Heath, who was hit by pitch to record her fifth RBI of the contest.

That left the bases full for Collet and she cleared them with her 10th double of the season, this one a line-drive shot to left-center field that made it 11-0.

The Lions scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth, but it wasn't enough to prevent UCO from ending the game on the eight-run rule.

Jones' three hits led the offense, while Heath, Heard and Collet had two hits apiece.  Collet added four RBI to Heath's five-RBI game and Heard also scored three runs.

Jayden Chestnut picked up the pitching win, scattering eight hits in going the distance.  She struck out eight and walked one, improving to 9-3 on the season.

The Bronchos scored in each of the first five innings to also end the second game early, with eight of UCO's nine regulars collecting at least one hit.

Heard got the Bronchos going right off the bat with a lead-off single to start the game and she promptly stole second before scoring on Collet's single up the middle.

UCO pushed across three two-out runs in the second, getting an RBI single from Abrams before Heath belted her sixth homer of the season, this one a two-run bomb to left-center field.

The Bronchos stayed hot in the third as Tramel followed Jones' lead-off single with a two-run homer to left field and Jones pushed the lead to 8-0 in the fourth when she plated two runs with a double.  Watson completed the scoring in the fifth with a two-out homer to left field.

Peyton Walker moved to 13-3 with the pitching win, giving up four hits while walking two and striking out two in the first four innings before
Abbie Lancaster threw the fifth.
