No. 12 Bronchos Drop Two In Texas

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Feb. 18) – Two errors, two walks and a wild pitch in the final inning led to another tough loss for Central Oklahoma on the second day of the Rattler Invitational here Saturday.

The No. 12-ranked Bronchos fell 5-1 to No. 10 St. Mary's in Saturday's first game before dropping a 6-5 decision to Metro State when the Roadrunners used UCO's miscues to score three runs in the bottom of the eighth.

It was the second extra-inning loss in two days to Metro State for the Bronchos, who dropped to 6-3 on the young season.  UCO ends the three-day event Sunday with a 10 a.m. contest against St. Edward's.

"It was a very disappointing day," head coach Cody White said.  "We didn't come through offensively in some key situations in the first game and just made too many mistakes against Metro.  That's the second day in a row where we just didn't close out the game against them."

The Bronchos led 3-1 after five innings against Metro before the Roadrunners tied it with two runs in the sixth.  UCO went ahead 5-3 in the top of the eighth as Carli Jones and Ashleigh Tramel had consecutive two-out run-scoring hits.

But, as in a 7-6 nine-inning loss to Metro on Friday, the Bronchos couldn't hold on.  The Roadrunners scored three runs without a hit, turning the two errors, two walks and wild pitch into another wild win.

Jones, Tramel, Morgan Heard and Carrie Abrams had two hits each to lead an 11-hit attack, with Tramel and JoBi Heath driving in two runs apiece.

UCO outhit the host Rattlers 8-7 in the first game, but SMU belted back-to-back homers in the third inning and that proved to be the difference.

The Bronchos scored their lone run in the fifth when Heath reached on a two-out infield single, advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on Lexi Watson's base hit to center field.

Watson and Abrams had two hits apiece to pace the UCO offense.
