Jones, Walker Lead UCO

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Feb. 19) – Carli Jones drove in three runs and Peyton Walker threw a one-hit shutout as No. 12-ranked Central Oklahoma rolled over St. Edward's 8-0 here Sunday on the final day of the Rattler Invitational.

The Bronchos broke on top 5-0 in the first inning and ended the game after five innings on the eight-run rule to finish2-3 in the three-day event.

"It wasn't the weekend we were looking for, but it was good to end on a positive note," said head coach Cody White, whose team is now 7-3 on the young season.  "We came out strong and Peyton really threw the ball well."

Walker had no trouble with the Hilltoppers, allowing only a fifth-inning single.  The junior right-hander struck out five and walked one in improving to 5-1.

Carrie Abrams went 3-for-3 to lead an eight-hit offensive attack, with Jones adding two hits and three runs batted in.

The Bronchos scored more than enough runs for Walker in their initial at bat, taking a 5-0 lead on Tori Collet's RBI single, Jones' three-run double to left-center field and an error.

It stayed that way until Morgan Heard blasted a solo home run in the fourth inning to make it 6-0 and UCO ended it in the bottom of the fifth on run-scoring singles by Heard and Abrams.

Abrams, Jones and Walker were named to the all-tournament team.

The Bronchos don't return to action until going to Oklahoma City Saturday to face near-by Oklahoma Christian for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
