Mules Top UCO In Series Opener

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (March 27) – Central Oklahoma managed just three hits in the first eight innings and fell to Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rival Central Missouri 8-2 here Friday afternoon.

The Bronchos doubled their hit total in the top of the ninth inning in scoring both runs, but it wasn't nearly enough to overcome the Mules in the opener of the four-game series.

UCO fell to 10-14 overall and 6-10 in the conference in losing its fourth straight game, while Central Missouri improved to 13-12 and 9-8.  The two teams play a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday before finishing with a single game at 1 p.m. Sunday.

"We fell behind early and just couldn't recover as a team," head coach Dax Leone said.  "Their pitcher (Carlos D'Armas) did a really good job of mixing his pitches and has us off rhythm all game.  This game is very unforgiving when you don't execute and get quality pitching."

The Mules banged out 14 hits in the contest and jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings before adding single runs in the fifth and sixth to go up 8-0.

The Bronchos did all their damage in their final at bat as Jake O'Brien and Josh Ingram had base hits before both scored on Jacob Borrego's double to left-center field.

O'Brien finished with two of UCO's six hits.
