Softball Has 12 Earn MIAA Academic Recogition

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Mikayla Rutland led a group of 12 Central Oklahoma softball players who earned Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Academic honors.

Rutland was one of 17 student-athletes in the conference who were awarded the prestigious MIAA Academic Excellence Award for having a 4.0 cumulative grade point average.

The junior first baseman was also in a group of six UCO players named Scholar-Athletes, which requires a student-athlete to earn All-MIAA honors for the 2022 season in addition to having a 3.50 or better cumulative GPA.

Senior outfielder Lexy Dobson, senior second baseman Tarin Dubler, senior shortstop Brighton Gilbert, sophomore pitcher Kylee Lynch and sophomore outfielder Jacee Minter also earned that distinction.

The Bronchos had six others in the Academic Honor Roll category, which requires a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Junior third baseman Shayla Harper, senior pitcher Bailey McKittrick, sophomore outfielder Shayleigh Odom, junior pitcher Corrina Rivas, sophomore pitcher Isie Cox and sophomore third baseman Taylor McKittrick were on that list.

UCO finished the 2022 season ranked No. 9 nationally with a 48-13 record, tied for the second-most wins in school history. The Bronchos won the Central Regional I Tournament title before falling to eventual national champion Rogers State in the Central Super Regional best-of-three series.
