MIAA Honors Six Baseballers

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team had six players recognized by the MIAA Wednesday when the league announced its postseason awards.

Luke Anderson and Kyle Crowl were both named Second Team All-MIAA and Garrett Takamatsu was named Third Team All-MIAA. Beaux Bonvillain, Brayden Nelson and Philip Scott were each named on the Honorable Mention list.

Anderson, a junior from Prairie Village, Kansas, has been the Game 1 starter every weekend for the Bronchos this season and the right-hander led the team with 68 strikeouts in 61 2/3 innings of work. He made 11 starts and has a 3.79 ERA to go with his 5-4 record on the bump.

Crowl, a senior from Council Bluffs, Iowa, hit .340 in 40 games played and had a team-high 52 hits. He also led the team with 11 home runs and 36 RBIs. Crowl added 10 doubles and scored 35 runs this season, both the second most on the team.

Takamatsu, a junior from Burlington, Ontario, is hitting .373 this season in 35 games played. He had 47 total hits, and scored 29 runs to go with 29 runs batted in. Takamatsu hit 10 doubles and five home runs.

Bonvillain has a 3.52 ERA in 13 appearances. The Broncho closer has six saves on the season and is also 1-0. Bonvillain has 26 strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings. Nelson has nine starts for the Bronchos but also had 14 total appearances. He is 6-2 this season with a 3.23 ERA totaled 40 strikeouts in 47 1/3 innings of work. Scott hit .321 this season, tied with Crowl for the team lead with 52 hits in 40 games played, and added a team-high 17 doubles. He also scored a team-high 38 runs.

Central Oklahoma is going to Missouri Southern for a best-of-three series to open the 2021 MIAA Tournament. First pitch of Game 1 is Friday at 3 p.m.
