UCO Season Ends In MIAA Quarterfinals

Bronchos Lose 13-2 In Seven Innings To Top-Seeded Pitt State

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma's season came crashing to an end Thursday in the MIAA Baseball Championship Quarterfinals where the Bronchos lost 13-2 to No. 1 seed Pittsburg State.

UCO finished the season 27-25.

"We knew we had to be really good in a lot of different areas today to beat a team like Pitt State and we just couldn't put it all together," first-year head UCO baseball coach Robbie Rea said. "They only have nine losses this late in the season and one of them was to us, so we knew what it was going to take, we just didn't have it today."

Central Oklahoma senior Colton Ayres hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning and UCO had its second hit when Trevor Rowe doubled to left just four batters into the action. But the Bronchos couldn't keep it up. Central didn't get a third hit until Rowe doubled again in the top of the sixth inning.

Haden O'Toole had UCO's fourth and last hit of the game right after Rowe's second double. Elijah Alexander scored Rowe on an RBI groundout to make it 13-2 in the sixth.

Brody Berlowitz got the start for UCO and took the loss. He threw 4.0 innings, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk. The sophomore right-hander struck out four batters. Mylan Childers, Tristan Wittau, and Zack Hudspeth all appeared in a 10-run fifth inning and each recorded one out. Michael Lopez pitched the bottom of the sixth.

Pittsburg State took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth before exploding for 10 runs in the fifth inning.
