Biography

Second time around senior pitcher with experience as a starter and a long reliever ... Set a school record for single season earned run average as a junior ... Can find the strike zone and knows how to get an out ... Has a fiery side ... Refuses to beat out of the dugout for foul balls down the line ... Transferred from Neosho County Community College in Kansas before junior season.

2020: Made nine appearances including one start for the Bronchos as a senior in shortened 2020 season ... Had a 3.72 earned run average in 19 1/3 innings of work ... Struck out 28 batters and allowed only 20 hits and three walks in 19.1 innings ... Struck out at least one batter in eight of nine appearances ... Season-high six strikeouts against Newman on Feb. 28 in a rare loss for UCO ... Struck out five batters twice - against East Central on Feb. 12 and again against Fort Hays State on March 8 ... Season-high 4 2/3 against FHSU ... Didn't allow a hit in two appearances (2 IP).

2019: Made 17 appearances last season and made seven starts ... Finished year with a 2.12 ERA, which tied the best mark in school history ... Helped UCO achieve a school record with 548 strikeouts, serving up 54 himself ... Went 6-1 on the year in 59 1/3 innings pitched ... Finished regular season with a 6-0 record and a 1.64 ERA ... Allowed only 48 hits and 14 runs, all earned ... Only walked six batters all season ... UCO outscored its opponents 108-58 with Nelson in the lineup ... Season-high eight strikeouts in win over Fort Hays State on April 20 ... Had six strikeouts in an outing on two occasions, Feb. 23 against Missouri Southern and March 24 against Pittsburg State ... Also struck out five against Pitt State in the MIAA Tournament ... Had at least one strikeout in 16 of 17 appearances.
