Central To Face Minot State

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team will take on Minot State Saturday at noon in a one-off non-conference matchup at Wendell Simmons Field.

Central Oklahoma is just 1-0 this season. The Bronchos have already seen 10 games postponed or canceled. Minot State has also had five games postponed or canceled. The Beavers of Minot, North Dakota, are 1-3 this season.

"We're glad to be able to have a game after having to make some more changes to our schedule," UCO head coach John Martin said. "We're going to have to play with a little more focus than we did earlier this week in our first game. Minot is a good team and we need to be sharp. We've got some talented guys but we just need to be a little better."

Central Oklahoma used a five-person staff on the mound Tuesday in a win over East Central. Each pitcher recorded two strikeouts. Offensively, UCO scored 10 runs on 12 hits.

Kyler Patterson and Grant Larson both threw three innings before Jacob Bailey and Hunter Freese combined for two more. Beaux Bonvillain threw one inning to close the game out.

Philip Scott had three hits in his first game of the season as did Ryan Harrel. Joe Mondragon and Brett Hopkins each had two hits. Hopkins hit one grand slam to rack up the RBIs. Zac Freeman also hit a two-run home run.

Central Oklahoma was scheduled to play Newman in a three-game MIAA series beginning Friday afternoon but Newman is unable to make the trip this weekend but.

Central Oklahoma is scheduled to be back home next weekend too. The Bronchos will host Fort Hays State in Edmond beginning next Friday, March 5.
