UCO Caps Perfect Weekend With Rout

EDMOND (Feb. 9) – Halley Randolph drove in four runs and was one of three Central Oklahoma players to finish with three hits as the Bronchos blistered East Central 15-0 to polish off a perfect weekend in the UCO Softball Invitational.

UCO had 16 hits in the five-inning rout, getting three each from Randolph, Brighton Gilbert and Hazel Puempel. The Tigers managed just three hits against a trio of Central pitchers, with Kylee Lynch picking up the win after going the first three innings.

The Bronchos went 6-0 in the three-day event, outscoring those six teams a combined 45-9 in improving to 7-5 on the young season.

"That was a good way to finish off the weekend," head coach Cody White said. "We swung the bats well and our pitchers did a nice job. I thought we made a lot of progress this week and I'm happy with direction we're going, but there's still a lot of work to do."

UCO took control early, scoring all 15 runs in the first two innings.

Lexy Dobson drew a lead-off walk in the first before back-to-back singles by Gilbert and Randolph loaded the bases for Puempel, who drove in the first run with a base hit through the left side. Gilbert raced home on a wild pitch and Amelya Huggins added a two-run single up the middle to make it 4-0.

The Bronchos paraded 15 batters to the plate in the second, pushing across 11 runs on 10 hits.

Randolph knocked in four of those runs, ripping a two-RBI double off the center field wall in her first at bat and driving in two more with a bloop double to left in the second. Puempel added a two-run double to left-center, while Haley Pomplun, Allie Eicher, Aleah Bozarth and Audrie Morrison also had run-scoring hits.

That made it 15-0 and UCO was on cruise control.
