Lindenwood Tops Bronchos

EDMOND (March 22) – Six Central Oklahoma pitchers could do little to slow down hot-hitting Lindenwood as the Bronchos dropped a 16-8 decision Sunday afternoon at Wendell Simmons Field.

The Lions had 12 extra-base hits in a 17-hit attack – including five home runs – and ended up winning the final three outings in the four-game Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association series after UCO took Friday's opener 16-3.

"This weekend overall obviously a huge setback for our team to say the least," head coach Dax Leone said.  "We're really disappointed, especially for the players.  Baseball is a game of peaks and valleys and will test your will constantly.

"I know one thing, in my 15 years of doing this, baseball will always reward those who respect the game."

The Bronchos led 5-4 after two innings, fell behind 9-6 after six and pulled within 9-8 entering the ninth before LU put the game away with a seven-run outburst that featured back-to-back homers.

UCO ended up with 11 hits, getting two apiece from Tyler Hatcher, Dylan Tinkler, Josh Ingram and Dylan Raper.

The Lions jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second, but UCO answered with a five-run volley in the bottom of that frame to move ahead.

Ingram started the inning with a homer to right field and Dilon Argo added a two-run shot, with Raper's RBI triple and Ethan Elroy's run-scoring single giving the Bronchos a 5-4 lead.

Lindenwood tied it with a run in the fourth and went up 7-5 in the fifth, with the Bronchos making it 7-6 in the bottom of that inning on Tinkler's RBI single up the middle.

The Lions put up two more runs in the sixth to up their lead to 9-6, though UCO answered in the seventh on Ingram's two-run single to cut the deficit to 9-8.

Neither team scored in the eighth and the Bronchos got the first out in the top of the ninth before LU unleashed its final onslaught to pull away.

UCO, now 10-13 on the season, doesn't play again until going to Central Missouri Friday to start a four-game conference road series.
