Game Statistics

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (Nov. 8) –
Marquez Clark scored two touchdowns, Logan Orso ran an interception back for another score and Central Oklahoma used a dominating second half to roll over Lindenwood 45-13 here Saturday afternoon.

The Bronchos forced five second-half turnovers – four interceptions and one fumble – in pulling away from a 14-13 halftime lead to win their third straight game and improve to 8-2 on the season and in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.

It's UCO's first eight-win season since 2004 and equals the victory total of the last four years combined.  The Bronchos return home to end the regular season next week, hosting Pittsburg State at 2 p.m. in a game with NCAA Division II playoff implications.

"We got off to a slow start on both sides of the ball, but made some adjustments and played really well in the second half," head coach Nick Bobeck said.  "We're happy with the win and now we turn our focus to next week."

Clark had an 18-yard touchdown run in the first half and 18-yard scoring catch in the second and Orso followed the TD catch with a 43-yard interception two plays later to cap a 21-point third quarter that broke the game open.

UCO gained 277 of its 443 total yards in the final two quarters and ended up with 263 rushing yards.  Running back Jake Gandara had 21 carries for 90 yards and a score to lead the ground game that also saw guard Landon Chappell run 22 yards with a fumble recovery.

Quarterback Chas Stallard completed 21-of-30 passes for 180 yards and the TD to Clark while adding 42 yards and a score rushing.  Caleb Moss caught seven passes for 60 yards and Christian Hood five for 53 yards.

The Bronchos overwhelmed LU defensively in the second half, allowing just 88 yards in 34 plays.  The Lions finished with 309 yards, only 10 of that rushing.

Orso's pick-six highlighted UCO's four-interception day, with Levonte Douglas, Addison Staggs and Riley Galyon also coming up with interceptions.

Tackle Kenny Allen had seven tackles with two sacks and safety Matt Pruitt seven tackles with three broken up passes.

UCO didn't waste time in taking control in the third period, forcing Lindenwood into a quick three-and-out and then going 70 yards in 12 plays to extend its lead to 21-13.

Moss caught three passes for 32 yards in the drive and Stallard ended it with a five-yard scamper up the middle.

The Bronchos got the ball right back when Douglas picked off LU on the first play after the kickoff and then went 62 yards in 11 plays.

Chappell rumbled for 22 yards down to the LU 31 when he picked up a fumble on a third-and-one play and Stallard hit a leaping Clark in the left corner of the end zone from 18 yards out five plays later to make it 28-13.

It was 35-13 less than a minute later as Orso stepped in front of a Graham Lindman pass at the LU 43 and weaved his way up the middle of the field for the score.

UCO's defense kept the Lions at bay while coming up with two more interceptions and Thomas Hill's fumble recovery and the Bronchos scored 10 fourth-quarter points to complete the rout.

Seth Hiddink made his 12th field goal of the season from 24 yards out to cap a 69-yard drive midway through the final stanza and Greg Johnson – moved to running back from wide receiver earlier this week – ended the scoring with a two-yard TD in the final minutes.

Lindenwood struck first with a 41-yard field goal midway through the first quarter to take a 3-0 lead, but Gandara's tackle-breaking 51-yard return on the ensuing kicking set up a 49-yard touchdown drive.

Gandara kept the drive alive with a two-yard burst up the middle on a fourth-and-one play at the LU 30 and Clark capped it four plays later with an 18-yard scoring run on a reverse, getting a key clearing block from Sam Noble en route to the end zone.

Hiddink's extra point gave the Bronchos a 7-3 lead with 1:54 left in the opening period.

The Lions regained the lead 14-10 with 6:04 remaining in the half with a 54-yard TD drive after a short punt and again UCO responded immediately.

Gandara kick-started a six-play, 73-yard scoring march with a 21-yard sprint on first down and his one-yard smash up the middle ended it.  Christian Hood set up the short TD when he pulled in Stallard's 31-yard pass at the LU one despite a crushing hit.

Hiddink's PAT made it 14-10 with 3:40 left in the half and the Lions cut it to 14-13 at intermission on a 38-yard field goal as the half ended.
