ABILENE, Texas (Feb. 13) –
Central Oklahoma built an early lead, but No. 12-ranked Abilene Christian proved to be too much in the end in handing the Bronchos a 15-6 setback in the 2010 season opener here Saturday night.

UCO overcame a 3-0 first-inning deficit to take a 6-3 lead following its half of the fourth, with the Wildcats tying the game in the bottom of that frame and then scoring nine runs in the next three innings to pull away.

The two Lone Star Conference rivals meet for a single nine-inning game at 1:05 p.m. Sunday before ending the four-game series with a 1:05 p.m. doubleheader Monday.

ACU took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, with the Bronchos tying it in the top of the second on Luke Yost's two-run home run and Taylor Brown's RBI single.

The Bronchos went up 4-3 in the third when Nate Mitani's sacrifice fly scored Ryan Schoonover, who had led off with a single and taken third on John Bryant's base hit.  UCO made it 6-3 in the top of the fourth as Tucker Brown had a two-run single.

It was all ACU after that.

The Wildcats tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with three unearned runs, went ahead 8-6 in the fifth and then broke the game open with a five-run uprising in the sixth.  ACU pushed the lead to 15-6 in the seventh en route to improving to 5-0 on the young season.

UCO finished with 13 hits, but committed five errors.  Taylor Brown went 3-for-5 to lead the Bronchos, while Tucker Brown, Yost and Casey Bruns had two hits apiece.
