LAWTON, Okla. (Oct. 28) -- Central Oklahoma dropped a tough five-set Lone Star Conference decision to Cameron here Thursday night.
The Bronchos sandwiched 25-23, 25-19 victories around a 26-24 loss in taking a 2-1 lead, but the Aggies prevailed 27-25, 15-12 in the final two sets to rally for the win in the hard-fought two-hour battle.
UCO fell to 18-9 on the year and 6-5 in the league with the loss. The Bronchos return to action Saturday with a 2 p.m. match at Midwestern State.
"It was a tough match and both teams played really hard," UCO coach Jeff Boyland said. "We had our chances to close it out in the fourth set and didn't get it done."
Alex Richardson had a career-high 21 kills to lead the Bronchos, while Zuela Adom hit .344 with 13 kills in addition to having five assisted blocks. UCO also got 10 kills and 13 digs from Kristen Wilson, eight kills from Taylor Summers and seven kills with a .429 hitting percentage from Courtney Whitlow.
The two teams split the first two sets before the Bronchos took control in the third, jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead behind a Wilson kill and Tate Hardaker service ace en route to that win.
The fourth set went back-and-forth throughout and was tied at 25-all after a Fleming Smurthwaite kill, but CU won the last two points to pull out the victory and force a deciding fifth set.
UCO had a 10-9 lead in that set after a Cameron error, but the Aggies scored the next three points to surge in front and went on to close out the match.
