Ritz, Lemos Earn Player of the Year Honors; Six Bronchos Named All-MIAA

Terin Ritz Named MIAA Player of the Year, Rylee Lemos Named MIAA Defensive Player of the Year

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Terin Ritz was named MIAA Player of the Year for the second year in a row and Rylee Lemos was named Defensive Player of the Year with the duo leading a list of Bronchos honored with All-MIAA honors announced Tuesday.
 
Ritz was named MIAA Player of the Year after earning co-Player of the Year last season. She was also named a First Team All-MIAA selection as utility/pitcher. Lemos was a First Team All-MIAA selection as an outfielder in addition to earning the league's top defensive honor.
 
Emily Deramus was also honored Tuesday, earning Second Team All-MIAA at shortstop. Kennedy Clark (catcher), Rylee Anglen (second base), and Brooklyn Ryan (outfield) were all named Honorable Mention. Anglen joined Lemos on the league's Gold Glove Team.
 
"Happy for all of them that were recognized," UCO head softball coach Cody White said. "Terin is such a great leader for us on and off the field and we're happy for her to be named Player of the Year again. Rylee (Lemos) the same way, she's so good for us and deserves this."
 
Ritz played in all 51 games this season for the Bronchos, making 21 appearances in the circle with 19 starts. She led the Bronchos with a .414 batting average, pelting 60 hits this season. Ritz had 16 doubles, 15 home runs, and a pair of triples. She added 64 RBIs and scored 49 runs.
 
In the circle, the senior from Edmond had a 1.78 ERA in 117 2/3 innings pitched. Ritz struck out 95 batters and tossed 12 complete games. She capped off her final regular season with a complete game one-hit shutout last weekend.
 
Lemos also played in all 51 games this season for the Bronchos. The junior from South Coffeyville, Oklahoma has played in and started all 171 games for the Bronchos over the last three seasons. This spring, Lemos hit .396 with a team-high 65 base hits. She had 12 doubles, 10 home runs, and six triples. Lemos added 40 RBIs and a team-high 61 runs scored. She also led UCO with 19 stolen bases this season, on 21 attempts.
 
Deramus, a junior from Edmond, also played in all 51 games this season. She hit .317 with 15 doubles, eight homers and one triple. Deramus added 47 RBIs and 42 runs scored. In the field, the junior shortstop had a .976 fielding percentage with just four errors in 166 chances this season.
 
Clark, a junior transfer, hit .329 in 51 games this season. She had 48 hits, seven doubles, one triple, and one home run. Clark had 37 RBIs and scored 16 runs.
 
Anglen, a junior, hit .313 in 51 games this season. She had 46 hits and scored 45 runs this season. At second base, Anglen had a .979 fielding percentage with four errors in 189 chances.
 
Ryan, a sophomore, hit .336 in 51 games played this season. She had 44 hits and scored 40 runs. Ryan had seven doubles, three triples, and three home runs. She added 19 RBIs.
 
Central Oklahoma (43-8, 20-4) won its sixth MIAA title this season and is the No. 1 seed in this week's MIAA Softball Championship in Hays, Kansas. UCO will play the winner of No. 8 Emporia State and No. 9 Fort Hays State, which play Wednesday in the opening round. The quarterfinals begin with the Bronchos Thursday at 11 a.m. The semifinals are scheduled for Friday and the championship game Saturday. The winner of the tournament receives the MIAA's automatic qualification into the NCAA Central Regional. UCO is ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Central Region rankings and is in line to host the national tournament in Edmond May 8-10.
