Bronchos Drop Two Tough Games to Rogers State

UCO Falls 2-1 and 4-0 in MIAA Road Doubleheader

CLAREMORE – Defense has been a Central Oklahoma trademark this season, but a couple of late-game errors proved pivotal Friday as the No. 16-ranked Bronchos dropped a MIAA doubleheader to intrastate rival Rogers State.

UCO gave up an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth inning to drop a 2-1 decision in the opener before giving up three unearned runs in the final two innings of a 4-0 second-game loss.

The Bronchos fell to 25-8 for the season and 3-3 in conference play while the Hillcats improved to 22-10 and 6-4. UCO moves on to Tahlequah Saturday for another league twinbill with Northeastern State at 4 p.m.

Pitching was premium and offense was limited Friday, with both teams managing just six hits in the two games.

Rogers broke on top 1-0 in the first inning of the first game, but the Bronchos answered right back in the top of the second to tie it. Jenna Job led off with a single to right field, went to second on Hannah Demoff's sacrifice bunt and trotted home when Brooklyn Lyles roped a double to left field.

It stayed deadlocked until the bottom of the sixth when a two-out error extended RSU's inning. A single and hit by pitch loaded the bases before a walk forced in what turned out to be the winning run.

Shelby Beard took the tough-luck loss in falling to 12-4 despite allowing just three hits.

Neither team could mount any offense in the nightcap as both teams were hitless until the Hillcats started the fifth with an infield single. Another key error, a sacrifice fly and a base hit pushed across two runs to give Rogers a 2-0 lead.

UCO made one more miscue in the sixth to help the Hillcats add two more runs for a 4-0 advantage.

Brooklyn Ryan had the lone hit for the Bronchos with a two-out double in the sixth. RSU finished with just three hits.

Carleigh Kinnaird took the loss, allowing two hits and two runs in five innings while striking out seven.
