Cody White

In his 12th year leading the Central Oklahoma softball program is Cody White, who has kept the Bronchos among the best in the MIAA and NCAA Division II throughout his tenure.

White has racked up a stout 446-160 record in 11 years, having guided UCO to nine national tournament appearances, eight 40-win seasons and four Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association championships. He was named MIAA Coach of the Year in 2017, '19 and '23 when the Bronchos captured both the conference’s regular season and tournament titles.

Cody has tutored 64 All-MIAA selections during his highly-successful tenure, including five who were named Player of the Year. Central has also had 34 All-Central Region honorees and 15 All-Americans under White's guidance.

White was named the program’s first-ever full-time assistant coach in 2012 and helped lead the Bronchos to the first women’s national championship in school history in 2013.

He played a key role during a sensational season that saw UCO claim the MIAA crown in its first year in the league and then go a perfect 9-0 in NCAA postseason play to take the national title, clipping Kutztown 5-2 in the finals to end a 51-11 campaign.

Cody and head coach Genny Stidham were selected the Division II National Coaching Staff of the Year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association after the season.

White was named head coach on Aug. 9, 2013 after Stidham left and went on to lead the Bronchos to another outstanding season in 2014.

UCO finished runner-up in the MIAA regular season standings and earned an at-large bid into the national tournament, going 1-2 in the Central Regional in finishing the season 41-17.

The Bronchos came back with another banner campaign in 2015 as White led UCO to a second straight MIAA runner-up finish. The Bronchos made the program’s fourth consecutive trip to the national tournament and ended with a 41-20 record.

Central ended up as league runners-up for the third straight year in 2016 and finished 40-20 in making it to the national tourney for the fifth time in a row.

The Bronchos recorded the second-most wins in school history in 2017, going 48-11 in winning the MIAA championship and qualifying for the Division II playoffs once again.

Central overcame some key injuries to finish 34-22 in 2018. The Bronchos were third in the conference and made it all the way to the “if necessary” finals game in the MIAA Tournament before losing and coming up just short in earning a national tournament berth.

The Bronchos enjoyed a spectacular season in 2019, winning 20 straight games during one stretch and tying the mark for second-most wins in finishing 48-8. Central was ranked No. 1 at the end of the regular season and captured both the MIAA regular-season and tournament championships.

UCO won the Central Regional I title before falling in the best-of-three Central Super Regional to eventual national champion Augustana.

The Bronchos were 13-12 in 2020 when the season was ended by the global health crisis. In 2021, White helped Central to a 36-14 overall record, a third MIAA title and a sixth NCAA tournament berth in eight years.

UCO put together another brilliant season in 2022, recording 48 wins for the third time in six years. The Bronchos finished 48-13 and won the Central Regional II Tournament that they hosted at Gerry Pinkston Stadium before falling to eventual national champion Rogers State in the Central Super Regional.

The Bronchos were even better in 2023, winning a school-record 54 games in making it to the Division II World Series for the first time since 2013. UCO captured the MIAA regular season and tournament titles before claiming the Central Regional crown in advancing to the World Series in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Central went 2-2 there, losing to the eventual champion and runner-up, and ended the season 54-9 and ranked fourth in the final national poll. Cody and assistants Jon Hunter and Jordan Dixon were named Central Region Coaching Staff of the Year by the NFCA.

UCO enjoyed another successful campaign in 2024, finishing 43-14 while again qualifying for the national tournament, going 1-2 there.

Cody came to UCO after serving as assistant baseball and softball coach at Edmond Memorial High School.  He helped the Bulldogs reach the state tournament in 2010 during a four-year stint as baseball assistant and was on the softball staff for three years.

White guided the Edmond Stars American Legion team to the state tournament in his one year as head coach and he helped lead the Edmond Memorial American Legion team to a pair of state runner-up finishes during two years as an assistant.

White played baseball at North Central Texas College for one year before spending his final three seasons at Southern Nazarene.

He was a two-time Sooner Athletic Conference Gold Glove Catcher for the Crimson Storm in addition to earning All-SAC honors.

Cody, who received his bachelor’s degree from SNU, is married to former UCO softball standout Hillary Brandt and they have three children (Lillie, Brooks and Miles).
