Volleyball Inches Up National Rankings

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Central Oklahoma moved up one spot in this week's AVCA Top 25, inching up to No. 20 in the country after four weeks of the 2023 season.

Central Oklahoma is 12-2 this season with a 3-1 record in the MIAA. The Bronchos went on the road in Week 4 and faced a tough matchup at No. 10 Nebraska Kearney Thursday night. The Lopers won that match 3-1, and they have moved up to No. 9 in this week's poll. UCO rebounded quickly though and won 3-0 at Fort Hays State on Friday night.
 
UCO is on the road again Tuesday to take on MIAA rival Pittsburg State. The Bronchos then return home for two more MIAA contests this weekend. UCO is hosting Central Missouri Friday at 5 p.m. as part of Homecoming's Rock The Block festivities. Central Oklahoma will also host Missouri Southern Saturday at 6 p.m. right after the football game.
 
This season, the Bronchos have a well-rounded attack. Addison Wimmer leads the offense with 3.15 kills per set and Jenna Karp is second at 3.07 kills per set. Sydney Huck, who has been over three at times this season, is just under that mark heading into this week at 2.94 kills per set. Mallorie Koehn (2.30) and Mikiah Perdue (1.93) have also been key figures in the offensive attack.
 
Lindsey Houran and Riley Roberts have both set the offense through 14 matches this season. Houran averages 8.82 assists per set with 335 total assists through 12 games played. Roberts is averaging 6.70 assists per set, 221 total assists, through 11 games played.
 
Defensively, UCO as a team averages 1.46 blocks per set. Perdue (0.70) and Karp (0.62) lead the way. Behind them, All-American libero Jaedynn Evans averages 6.03 digs per set with 211 digs in 10 games played this season.
 
Pittsburg State is 6-6 overall this season and has a 2-2 record in the MIAA. The Bronchos beat Pitt State 3-0 in Edmond two weeks ago. The Gorillas of Pittsburg, Kansas also lost 3-1 at Kearney and won 3-0 at Hays last week.
 
PSU is led by Janae Thurston, who averages 3.23 kills per set. Jadyn Jackson leads the attack with 8.81 assists per set. Defensively the team averages 1.72 blocks per set and Josie McCroskey leads the defense with 4.14 digs per set.
