Jaedynn Evans & Lindsey Houran Take MIAA Honors Again

Central Oklahoma Earns MIAA Defensive Player of the Week and MIAA Setter of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma continued to see its volleyball players earn MIAA honors as the league announced its weekly awards Monday.
 
Jaedynn Evans was named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth consecutive week and the fifth time this season, and Lindsey Houran was named MIAA Setter of the Week for the second week in a row.

Central Oklahoma beat No. 8 Nebraska Kearney 3-1 on Friday night before turning back Fort Hays State 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Bronchos improved to 20-3 overall with the two wins, and UCO is now 11-2 in the MIAA and just a half-game back of first-place Central Missouri.
 
Evans continued her dominant defensive ways this week with two more big games to help Central to a pair of MIAA wins. She had 55 digs in two matches, averaging 7.86 per set through seven sets played. Evans had 28 digs in four sets against UNK before managing 27 digs in the sweep of Fort Hays State ... The latter came to 9.0 digs per set.
 
Evans, who led the country in 2022 with 6.62 digs per set before earning All-American honors, leads DII again this season with an average of 6.33 digs per set. The Kalona, Iowa native ranks fifth among all NCAA volleyball players in Division I, II, or III.
 
Houran set the pace for No. 19 Central Oklahoma this week. The sophomore from Colleyville, Texas totaled 87 assists in two matches, 12.43 per set over seven sets. She also had 16 digs, six kills, two aces and one block.
 
In a 3-1 thrilling victory over No. 8 UNK, Houran dished out 57 assists. She had 30 in the three-set victory over Hays. Houran is fourth in the MIAA in assists per set this season, averaging 10.24. She is fifth in total assists, 737.
 
Central Oklahoma is on the road this week for three MIAA contests. The Bronchos visit Newman on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in Wichita, Kansas. UCO will return home for a couple of days before taking off for Missouri Southern, Friday in Joplin, and Central Missouri, Saturday in Warrensburg.
 
UCO is 20-3 on the season, 11-2 in the MIAA. Newman is 0-21 this year with an 0-13 mark in league play. Missouri Southern is 12-11 overall and 5-9 in the MIAA. And Central Missouri is 15-7 overall but 12-2 in league play, just marginally in front of the Bronchos.
