Bronchos Roll Past Emporia

EDMOND (Sept. 23) – Nine different players recorded kills in Central Oklahoma's shellacking of Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rival Emporia State Friday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos never trailed in any of the three sets in rolling to a 25-13, 25-17, 25-14 sweep. UCO moved to 15-1 on the season and 5-1 in play.

"I thought we did a good job staying focused on the task at hand today," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "It would have been easy to have a letdown after last night's big win, but the girls put that match behind them and got ready for this one."

Central hit a season-high .347 in the mismatch, finishing with 40 kills and just six errors in 98 attacks.

Brynn Egger and Sydney Huck led the balanced attack with seven kills apiece, while Mallorie Koehn had six. Lari Migliorino and Jenna Karp chipped in five kills each.

Three players hit .400 or better -- Migliorino (.625), Huck (.467) and Karp (.400). Lindsey Houran had 30 assists and Jaedynn Evans 15 digs for the Bronchos.

UCO jumped on top 4-0 in the first set on kills by Koehn, Egger and Migliorino. It was a 7-5 lead when four different players had kills while Koehn and Migliorino combed for a block in a 7-1 run that made it 14-6 and the Bronchos coasted in.

The second set was close early it was tied 7-7 when UCO took control, getting kills from Egger, Huck, Karp Maegan Lacy during an 8-2 spurt that made it 15-9. The Hornets got no closer than five the rest of the way as the Bronchos grabbed the commanding 2-0 advantage.

It didn't long for UCO to put the match away in the third set. Koehn had back-to-back service aces along with a kill while Koehn and Courtney Lane also had kills as the Bronchos race to a quick 8-0 lead and Emporia had no answer.

The Bronchos open a three-match MIAA road-swing Monday with a 6 p.m. contest at Pittsburg State.
