Baseball Slips In Series Finale

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team lost 7-1 to Central Missouri Sunday in the MIAA series finale.

The Bronchos are now 15-14 overall this season and 10-12 in league play. UCO returns home to face Oklahoma Christian in a non-conference matchup Tuesday before welcoming Missouri Western to Wendell Simmons Field for a three-game MIAA series next weekend.

Central got its only run of the game in the top of the seventh inning but only trailed 2-1 with that. It came after Kyle Crowl led off the inning with a double to left center. He moved to third on Garrett Takamatsu's single to the same spot and then scored on a Bennett Laurence sacrifice fly to center field.

Unfortunately for the Bronchos Sunday, that was all the offense UCO could manage.

Central scattered five hits Sunday. Crowl had two of them, going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Takamatsu was 1-for-4, Laurence went 1-for-2 with an RBI, and Ryan Harrel added another single.

Brayden Nelson got the start for the Bronchos Sunday. He threw four innings and allowed just two runs on two hits. He also struck out two batters.

Jacob Bailey relieved Nelson in the fifth and threw two innings, allowing three runs on three hits. Bailey struck out one.

Kyler Patterson allowed one hit and one walk in 2/3 of relief work, Beaux Bonvillain gave up two runs on four hits in one inning of relief work, and Jake Terry got the final out against the only batter he faced in the bottom of the eighth.
