Bronchos Visit Southeastern

DURANT, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team breaks from conference play Tuesday when the Bronchos visit Southeastern Oklahoma State. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. from Mike Metheny Field.

UCO is 14-11 this season. Southeastern is 13-13 overall this season.

"We played good this weekend and we need to keep that up Tuesday," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "Southeastern is a good team and it's tough to win at their place so we're going to have to come out strong and play like we did this past weekend."

Central has a win streak going. The Bronchos took 2 of 3 from Northwest Missouri this past weekend in Edmond, winning Game's 2 & 3 of the three-game series. Southeastern snapped a seven-game losing streak Saturday and won a second consecutive game themselves against Southwestern Oklahoma State.

The Bronchos head to Durant hitting .291 as a team. UCO averages 7.7 runs per game on 10 hits per game through 25 games played this season. The Bronchos average just over three extra-base hits per game, with 47 doubles, seven triples and 24 home runs.

Kyle Crowl, hitting .375, is leading Central on offense midway through the 2021 season. The senior shortstop has a team-high 36 hits and is 36-for-96 at the plate this year. He's got a team-high nine homers and has seven doubles and a triple. Crowl also has 26 runs scored and 27 runs batted in.

Crowl went 7-for-10 with a double, a triple, a home run, and four runs and four RBIs in UCO's last two games.

Philip Scott, hitting .327, leads the team with 11 doubles this season. The senior third baseman has 34 hits and adds 25 runs and 19 RBIs. Scott also has two home runs.

Joe Mondragon is hitting .320 and joins Crowl and Scott with 30 or more hits. Mondragon has 31 base knocks, including eight doubles and two triples.

Shane Nixon, who has played in just nine games this season, has come on strong this past week. Nixon is hitting .385, going a combined 10-for-26 at the plate this season. He has a double and two home runs, eight runs scored and eight RBIs.

Central Oklahoma has a 5.72 earned run average as a team. Defensively, the Bronchos allow 5.9 runs per game on 8.8 hits per game. Opponents are hitting just .263 against Central.

The Bronchos have 237 total strikeouts in 25 games, an average of 9.4 per game. Kyler Patterson (31), Jacob Bailey (26), and Colton Croft (22) lead the non-weekend starters in strikeouts.

Central Oklahoma will return to league play this weekend. The Bronchos visit Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo. for a three-game MIAA series beginning with a doubleheader Saturday and wrapping up Sunday afternoon.
