Huggins, Bozarth Spark UCO

EDMOND (Feb. 21) – Amelya Huggins and Aleah Bozarth plastered a pair of home runs apiece to power Central Oklahoma past Midwestern State 9-2 Friday evening on the first day of the UCO Softball Festival.

Huggins homered in the first and fifth innings in finishing with five runs batted in, while Bozarth went deep in the second and sixth and had three RBI. The Bronchos, now 10-8 on the season go right back on the field to play Cameron before taking on Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday and St. Mary's Sunday.

Haley Pomplun also had two hits as the Bronchos finished with 10. Bailey McKittrick started in the pitching circle and earned the win after going the first four innings, with Corrina Rivas gaining the save after giving up one hit in three shutout innings.

Huggins' first homer of the day gave the Bronchos a 3-0 lead in the first. Brighton Gilbert singled with one out, Allie Eicher drew a two-out walk and Huggins followed with a huge blast that careened off the scoreboard in left-center field.

Central didn't waste any time adding to that cushion in the second as Pomplun led off with a single up the middle and Bozarth belted a line-drive shot over the left-center field wall to make it 5-0.

MSU scored twice in the fourth, but the Bronchos got those back in the fifth.

Hazel Puempel led off the frame with a walk and Huggins crushed the first pitch she saw, sending it soaring over the center field fence to up the advantage to 7-2.

Bozarth started the sixth with a moon ball far over the left field wall and Allie Eicher added an RBI single later in the inning in moving the lead to 9-2 and that's how it ended.
