Bronchos Fall To Cameron

EDMOND (Feb. 21) – Cameron scored the tie-breaking run in the top of the seventh inning and Central Oklahoma had no answer in its final at bat as the Bronchos dropped a 3-2 decision Friday night on the first day of the UCO Softball Festival.

Central overcame a 2-0 first-inning deficit to pull even after five innings, but the Aggies broke that deadlock in the seventh and the Bronchos didn't threaten in the bottom half of the inning.

UCO left 10 runners on base, drawing six walks while managing six hits. The Bronchos, now 10-9 on the season, return to action Saturday with a 4 p.m. contest against No. 21-ranked Texas A&M-Commerce.

"We had some opportunities, but just didn't come up with the hits when we had good chances to score," head coach Cody White said. "Tomorrow's a new day and we'll have to be ready to go against a really good Commerce team."

Cameron scored twice in the top of the first to quickly break on top, with the Bronchos getting on the scoreboard in the third.

Brighton Gilbert started a two-out rally with a single up the middle and raced home on Hazel Puempel's line-drive double to left-center field to make it 2-1.

It stayed that way until the fifth when Lexy Dobson led off with a massive blast high over the left field wall for a solo home run that tied it.

The Aggies went back ahead in the top of the seventh with a two-out RBI base hit. Dobson made a fine play at the wall in center field on a long fly ball and left fielder Audrie Morrison threw out a runner at third base to help keep CU from scoring more runs, but it didn't help as the Bronchos couldn't muster any offense in their final try.

Dobson had two of UCO's six hits.
