UCO Drops Second Straight In Texas

CONROE, Texas (Jan. 31) – No. 7-ranked Central Oklahoma fell behind quickly for the second straight game and went on to drop a 10-0 decision to No. 10 Texas A&M-Commerce Friday afternoon in the second game of the season-opening Arkansas Tech Winter Invitational.

The Lions – who ranked second in NCAA Division II last year with 88 home runs – bashed  three-run long balls in each of the first two innings to grab a 6-0 lead and went on to end the game after five innings on the eight-run rule.

UCO, which trailed 4-0 after two innings in a 4-1 first-game loss to No. 2 Texas A&M-Kingsville, plays two games both Sunday and Sunday to finish the opening weekend event. The Bronchos have two more tough tests Saturday with games against No. 15 Cameron and perennial Division II power Angelo State.

"We didn't have a very good day," head coach Cody said. "We struggled in every area and that's not a good combination when you're playing good teams. But it's the first day of a long season, so we just have to put it behind us and focus on coming back strong tomorrow."

TAMU-C hit a two-out three-run homer in the first inning and smacked another three-run shot in the second against returning All-American Bailey McKittrick in taking command. The Lions added one run in the third, another in a fourth and two in the fifth.

Central managed just four base-runners against All-American Emily Otto. Amelya Huggins drew a first-inning walk, Brighton Gilbert had a third-inning triple, Aleah Bozarth was hit by pitch in the fifth and Lexy Dobson had a fifth-inning single.
