Bronchos Tame Tigers In Doubleheader Sweep

HAYS, Kan. (April 11) – Ashleigh Tramel had five hits and six runs batted in to pace an offensive assault that led Central Oklahoma to a pair of runaway wins over Fort Hays State here Tuesday.

The Bronchos banged out nine hits in a 7-2 first-game win before unleashing a season-high 18-hit attack in a 14-0 second-game shellacking.  UCO improved to 36-8 overall and 16-4 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association with its 15th win in 16 outings.

Tramel went 2-for-4 with four RBI in the opener before coming back with a 3-for-4, two-RBI performance in the nightcap to highlight the onslaught.

"We had another good day at the plate and came out with two more much-needed conference road wins," head coach Cody White said.  "Our pitchers threw well and overall it was a great road trip for us."

Jayden Chestnut, Peyton Walker and Jessi Walker combined in the pitching circle to give up just eight hits in the sweep.

Chestnut went the distance in the first game, allowing three hits, two runs and one walk while striking out 10 in improving to 15-3 with her eighth straight win.

The Bronchos were down 2-1 after five innings of the first game before tying it on Tramel's run-scoring single to center field in the top of the sixth and UCO took control with five runs in the seventh.

Tramel had the big hit in that frame with a three-run single, while JoBi Heath also plated a run with a double to put the Bronchos up 7-2 and UNK had no answer.

UCO jumped on top quickly in the nightcap, erupting for seven runs on eight hits in the top of the first as Heath, Tramel, Morgan Heard, Tori Collet and Mo Selman had RBI hits.

Tramel added a run-scoring single in the second to make it 8-0, the lead was 10-0 after three innings and RBI singles by Collet and Lauren Kelley highlighted a four-run fourth that completed the scoring.

P. Walker started and went the first four innings in the second-game shutout, giving up five hits and no walks with three strikeouts in moving to 18-4.  J. Walker allowed one hit in throwing the final inning.

The Bronchos return to conference action Saturday, traveling to Tahlequah to meet Northeastern State in a 2 p.m. twinbill.
