EDMOND (May 4) –
Mason Justice had Central Oklahoma's second straight complete-game pitching outing and the Bronchos took control early en route to a 9-2 rout of Emporia State Saturday afternoon to complete a two-game sweep in the first round of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Post-season Tournament.

Cameron Mavroulis' two-run single keyed a five-run first inning uprising that helped stake UCO to an early 5-1 lead and the Bronchos bashed out 13 hits against seven ESU pitchers to claim their 12th win in 13 outings in advancing to next week's tournament semifinals in Kansas City, Kan.

UCO, now 30-17 on the season, will meet regular season champion Missouri Western at 11 a.m. Thursday, with Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State playing in the other semifinal at 2:30 p.m.

Edgar Lopez dominated on the mound in UCO's 4-3 win over the Hornets Friday and Justice followed with his first complete-game outing of the season in closing out the best-of-three series, scattering nine hits while walking three and striking out seven in improving to 5-2.

“Mason was completely dominant from the very first pitch and we played high-level defense behind him,” head coach Dax Leone said.  “Baseball is the ultimate game about the players and I'm really excited for them.”

UCO gave up an unearned run in the top of the first inning to fall behind early before answering back with a five-run volley in its initial at bat.

Mavroulis had the biggest hit with a two-run single to left field, while Matt Johnson added an RBI double, Wacey Henderson a run-scoring triple and Ryan Stoup an RBI single as the Bronchos bolted to a 5-1 lead.

It stayed that way until the sixth when Tyler Crabtree followed Mavroulis' one-out double with one of his own to make it 6-1 and it became 7-1 minutes later on a Johnson sacrifice fly.

The Hornets got their final run in the seventh when they strung together three hits, but UCO came back with Johnson's two-run double in the eighth to stay safely in front.

Crabtree went 3-for-4 at the plate for the second straight day and Mavroulis also had three hits to lead UCO's offensive assault, with Johnson, Henderson and Cesar Wong adding two hits apiece.
