Bronchos Win Fifth Straight

EDMOND (April 18) – Robbie Hoffman drove in three runs and Mikel Beltran pitched four shutout innings to spark Central Oklahoma to a 5-2 victory at chilly Wendell Simmons Field here Thursday afternoon.

It was the fifth straight win for the Bronchos, who improved to 23-16 with the non-conference triumph. UCO returns to Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play Saturday with a 1 p.m. home doubleheader against Washburn.

The Bronchos managed just six hits in the contest, with Hoffman going 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and a sacrifice fly in finishing with three RBI to lead the way. Cesar Wong continued his recent hot streak with a 2-for-3, two-run performance.

Alex Coplan started and gave up two runs in going the first three innings before Beltran came on to dominate the final four. The hard-throwing junior right-hander gave up just two hits and two walks while striking out five to earn the win.

The Saints took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third, but UCO came right back with three unearned runs in the bottom of that frame.

Ryan Stoup reached on an error to start the inning and he eventually scored on Wong's single through the left side, with Hoffman's double to right-center field plating two runs that put the Bronchos on top to stay.

UCO's other two runs came in the fifth on Hoffman's sacrifice fly and Ross Rose's run-scoring single.
