EDMOND (April 2) –
John Bryant drove in three runs to help stake Central Oklahoma a 7-2 lead and the Bronchos held on for a 7-5 second-game victory in earning a doubleheader split with Lone Star Conference rival Tarleton State Friday afternoon.

The Texans broke open a tight first-game battle with a five-run sixth inning in winning the opener 8-3 before UCO rebounded to take the nightcap.  The two teams meet for another league twinbill at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Austin Baker and Luke Yost had key pitching outings in the second-game win, with Baker picking up the win after coming on to pitch five solid innings of relief and Yost earning the save by allowing one hit in the final two innings.

Jordan Mullin went 3-for-5 to lead an 11-hit attack, while Bryant, Casey Bruns and Taylor Brown had two hits apiece.

The Bronchos scored six runs in the second and third innings of the second game in overcoming an early 1-0 deficit, getting run-scoring hits from Brown, Mullin and Arrow Cunningham in a four-run second.

TSU got a run back in the top of the third, but Bryant cranked his fifth homer of the season in the bottom of that frame with a line-drive shot on a two-out, 3-2 pitch to drive in Ryan Schoonover – who had walked – and make it 6-2.

UCO upped its lead to 7-2 in the fifth when Brady White reached on an error, went to third on Bruns' double and scored on Bryant's sacrifice fly.

The Texans got back in the game with one run in the sixth and two in the seventh, but Yost came on after a lead-off walk in the eighth and got the final six outs to preserve the win.

UCO trailed just 2-1 through five innings of the first game before Tarleton broke it open with a two-out, five-run rally in the top of the sixth.

The Bronchos got two runs back in the bottom of that frame on Yost's two-run homer, but TSU added an insurance run in the top of the seventh en route to the win.

Mullin had two of UCO's six hits in the contest.
