Bronchos Sweep Westminster In Texas

UCO Wraps Up Denton Volleyfest Saturday

DENTON, Texas – Central Oklahoma turned back Westminster (Utah) 3-0 Saturday morning in the first of two matches on the final day of the Denton Volleyfest at Texas Woman's University.

UCO (5-2) got double-digit kills from Georgia Ahlert and Myla Unterweger thanks mostly to 25 assists from senior Riley Roberts. The Bronchos hit .292 in the match to earn its second three-set win of the young season.

"While this win wasn't perfect, we'll take it," UCO head volleyball coach Edgar Miraku said. "As we're figuring things out, figuring each other out, we'll take the wins any way we can. We did some good things today and we need to use that to continue getting better."

Central Oklahoma wraps up the Denton Volleyfest against Southern Arkansas later Saturday. The Bronchos beat SAU in four sets last weekend.

Ahlert led UCO with 12 kills hitting a blistering .417 in the three sets. The sophomore middle blocker had just two errors on 24 attacks. She also added one block on the defensive side of the action.

Unterweger had 10 kills and hit .279 with just two errors on 29 attacks. She added six digs on the defensive rotation. Caroline Clayton chipped in six kills, Taylor Fenton and Kate Wells added five each, and Roberts had three herself from the setter position. Roberts also had nine digs in the match.

Morgan Manning led UCO with 13 digs on the back row. Kaitlyn Parrott added 10 and Jordyn Baker dug up seven attacks too.

Central Oklahoma trailed in the first set after an early run by Westminster. The Bronchos led 3-2 but suddenly found themselves in a 10-3 deficit. UCO was still down seven, 17-10, later in the set. UCO landed four straight kills then had a service ace by Manning to make it 17-15. The Bronchos tied it at 18, 19, 20, and 21 before finishing off WU 25-22 in the first set.

UCO was behind again in the second set as Westminster opened up a 3-0 lead and soon after, a 5-1 advantage. But when the Bronchos went in front 12-11 on a Fenton kill, Central didn't trail again and pulled away with a 25-19 win in the second frame.

The Bronchos never trailed in the third and final set. Clayton gave UCO a 2-1 lead early and Wells made it 8-2 moments later. Westminster got it back to two, 13-11, and 14-12, but another Manning ace made it 20-12 as the Bronchos polished off a 25-18 win for the sweep.
