UCO Opens Road Swing Wednesday

No. 23-ranked Bronchos Takes on No. 12 Emporia State

EMPORIA, Kan. – No. 23 Central Oklahoma opens a four-match season ending road swing Wednesday when the Bronchos go to Emporia State for a 4:30 p.m. meeting against the No. 12 Hornets.

UCO is 18-6 on the season and 5-3 in league play, while Emporia is 21-3 and 6-2. The Bronchos follow Wednesday's trip with a Friday contest at Pittsburg State before finishing the regular season next week with back-to-back matches at Northeastern State and Arkansas-Fort Smith.

"It's a tough way to end the season," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "Every match in this league is hard, especially on the road. Emporia is having a great season and we will have to be at our best."

UCO had a season-high eight-match winning streak snapped in its last outing with a four-set loss to No. 6 Nebraska-Kearney.

Georgia Ahlert continues to lead the Bronchos. The sophomore middle blocker is hitting .291 with 258 kills, averaging 3.07 per set, and also has 48 total blocks (34 assisted, 14 solo).

Sophomore Myla Unterweger is close behind Ahlert with 238 kills to go along with 125 digs.

Kate Wells is among the MIAA leaders in blocks. She has 102 total blocks (80 assisted, 22 solo) for a 1.24 per-set average and has also knocked down 160 kills.

Riley Roberts ranks second in the league in assists per set at 9.55, having piled up 812 with seven outings of 40-plus. The senior setter also has 232 digs, 88 kills and 39 total blocks.

Kaitlyn Parrot is third in the conference with 5.11 digs a set (373 total). Morgan Manning is second on the team with 337 digs (3.92/set) along with a team-best 26 service aces.

Emporia is paced by Lavra Krizaric (290 kills, 264 digs, 53 blocks) and Piper Bahr (226 digs, 128 digs).

UCO owns a 28-12 lead in the series with the Hornets.
