Rowing Season Begins In OKC

Central Oklahoma Competing In Annual Head of the Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY – Central Oklahoma begins its fall rowing season with the annual Head of the Oklahoma this weekend on the Oklahoma River.

UCO will outfit three boats – two fours and an eight – with racing beginning Saturday afternoon.

"We are excited to get started," UCO head women's rowing coach Jules Lynch said. "We've had good practices and training is going well and now we're looking forward to getting on the water. This weekend is a great chance for us to see where we stand and what we need to work on."

Lynch begins her tenure as head rowing coach. She was hired in August to lead the three-time national champion program. Lynch comes to Edmond from Culver Academies in Indiana. She began her coaching career there after finishing her time as a student-athlete in the Tulsa rowing program.

Ghislyn Tucker, Raphael Sanchez, Sawyer Schreiner, Carlota Martinez, and Tierney Westermier will make up the first 4+ boat. Ella Berg, Christine Ruff, Caroline Hisey, Abby Millwood, and Aniya Alex will make up the second 4+ boat.

In the 8+ entry, Saleana Tipton, Martinez, Schreiner, Sanchez, Westermier, Dara Dennis, Brittany Blackwell, Ruff, and Mady Wright make up the lineup for the Bronchos.

UCO is scheduled to compete in three fall events before its championship season in the spring. The Bronchos will head to Tulsa for a dual later this month and then Wichita, Kansas for the annual Frostbite Regatta at Wichita State in November.
