Bronchos Sweep MIAA Awards

Lindsey Houran, Kaitlyn Parrott, and Kedron Burk Named MIAA Players of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma volleyball swept the competition this weekend in Texas and on Monday, the Bronchos swept the MIAA player of the week awards.
 
Lindsey Houran was named MIAA Setter of the Week, Kaitlyn Parrott was named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week, and Kedron Burk was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week.
 
"That's great for all three of them," UCO head volleyball coach Edgar Miraku said. "They were so big for us in being able to pick up four wins last week and they deserve this. We have big games coming up this week and we'll need their leadership again this week."
 
No. 7 Central Oklahoma went 4-0 last week at the Patriot Classic in Tyler, Texas. The Bronchos beat UT Dallas, host UT Tyler, No. 5 Ferris State, and Ouachita Baptist, all by a sweeping score of 3-0.
 
Burk landed 43 kills at a 3.58 kills per set rate and hit .288 along the way. The senior middle blocker from Edmond also deterred the opposition with five solo blocks on the weekend. Burk recorded matches of seven kills, 10, 15, and 11. Her 15 kills against No. 5-ranked Ferris State came in three sets at an average of 5.0 kills per set in the NCAA Division II top 10 showdown won by the Bronchos. 
 
Parrott dug up 89 attacks from the opposition for 7.42 per set to lead the defensive efforts for the MIAA in week one action. The junior libero collected matches of 16, 14, 30, and 29 digs. Her 30 digs against No. 5-ranked Ferris State came in three sets for a 10.0 digs per set average in the match. 
 
Houran dished out 143 total assists with individual matches of 36, 40, 32, and 35. The match with 40 assists against UT Tyler was her 50th 40-assist match of her career. It also moved the senior into fourth place in UCO history with 3,968 career assists and she moved past 4,000 by the end of the tournament.
 
Houran was named to the All-Tournament Team along with freshman outside hitter Kamryn Glover. No. 7 Central Oklahoma hosts Oklahoma Baptist Tuesday night at Hamilton with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m.
