Central Oklahoma Hosts Pitt State

Bronchos Welcome Gorillas For Three-Game MIAA Series Beginning Friday In Edmond

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma returns home this weekend for a three-game series against Pittsburg State with Game 1 scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday at Wendell Simmons Field.

UCO is 13-4 this season and has a 4-2 record in league play after two weeks of conference games. Central went 1-2 at Washburn before sweeping a road series at Emporia State. Pittsburg State is 12-3 overall this season and 3-3 in the MIAA. The Gorillas went 2-1 against Emporia before going 1-2 at Central Missouri.

"It's good to be playing at home again after two weekends on the road," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "But it's going to be a really tough series. They've got guys that can hit and guys that can pitch. We've played pretty well and we need to this weekend."

Central Oklahoma went 10-4 in the first month of the season and is now 3-0 in March. The Bronchos play three more MIAA series this month – at Fort Hays State, home against Missouri Southern and Newman. UCO is also playing Arkansas Tech, Rogers State, and Newman in midweek games.

Central Oklahoma goes into this weekend with a 4.66 team earned run average. The Bronchos have given up 84 runs in 17 games, with teams hitting .240 against UCO. The Central pitching staff has 161 strikeouts, just under 10 per game.

Brett Pense and Brady Gilmore have started each of the first five weekends for the Bronchos. Danny Satterlee has four starts and Caleb Burchfield has three. Pense has a 4.71 ERA with 26 strikeouts in 21 innings. Burchfield's ERA is 4.74 and he has 14 Ks in 19 innings. Satterlee is at 4.80, with 10 Ks in 15 innings, and Gilmore has a 6.32 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 15 2/3 innings.

UCO has used 16 different pitchers out of the bullpen this season. Veteran closer Valek Cisneros has four saves in seven appearances this season. He is one save away from tying the UCO career record (24) and two saves shy of the MIAA career record.

Central Oklahoma is averaging over seven runs per game this season with the team hitting .270 through 17 games played. UCO has 151 total hits, 8.8 per game, with just over half, 76, for extra bases. The Bronchos have 46 doubles, 24 home runs, and six triples.

Grant Randall (.353) leads the team with 24 hits. Caden Robertson (.379) has 22 hits and Ty Chapman (.356) has 21 hits. Robertson has a team-high eight doubles, tied with Carson Carpenter, whose 17 hits are fourth on the team. Robertson's seven home runs leads the Bronchos and Carpenter, Orlando Gonzalez, and Garrett Long, are all second with three.

Pittsburg State opened its 2025 season at the Edmond First Pitch Classic. The Gorillas went 3-0 then and started 9-0 before its first loss. Pitt hits .301 and averages 8.7 runs per game. PSU has a 3.93 team ERA.
