Bronchos Split At Northwest Missouri

Central Oklahoma Earns 12-0 Run-Rule Before Falling 4-2

MARYVILLE, Mo. – No. 6 Central Oklahoma split an MIAA doubleheader against Northwest Missouri State Friday afternoon, winning 12-0 in a six-inning Game 1 run-rule before falling 4-2 in Game 2.

UCO is now 27-6 on the season following the games and 8-2 in the MIAA. Northwest Missouri improved to 13-20 and is now 3-9 in league play. The Bronchos wrap up a six-game road swing at Missouri Western (19-12, 7-5 MIAA) on Saturday.

"We didn't have a good approach in Game 2 and that's frustrating," UCO head softball coach Cody White said. "We were good in Game 1, but our pitching gave up too much and our offense went from good to bad and that got us today. We just have to put this one behind us and be ready to play. Saturday's games will be tougher than today."

UCO got the 12-0 run-rule in Game 1 behind a complete game shutout by Terin Ritz, who allowed just three hits and a walk in six innings. She did hit one batter, but also struck out two.

The Bronchos had seven hits and drew 10 walks in Game 1. All seven base hits were singles. Ariah Mitchell accounted for almost half of Central's hits, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Rylee Lemos went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Kennedy Clark and Emily Deramus each had one hit.

The Bronchos led 1-0 going to the fifth inning before a five-run outburst made it 6-0. Central scored five runs on one hit in the inning. A six-run sixth followed to give the Bronchos the 12-0 lead.

Shelby Beard got the start in Game 2, but only recorded one out before the Bronchos turned to Sydney Ward. Beard allowed four runs on five hits and a walk facing seven batters.

Ward came on to finish the game and threw 5 2/3 shutout innings. She allowed nine hits and a walk, but also struck out four batters. Most importantly, she kept the Bronchos in the game.

Lemos' two-run home run also scored Brooklyn Ryan to cut the Northwest lead in half, 4-2, in the top of the third inning.

Central Oklahoma scattered eight hits in Game 2, but also left nine runners on base.

The Bronchos play Missouri Western Saturday afternoon and will return home for another midweek non-conference game Tuesday, April 1 against Northwestern Oklahoma State.
