Bronchos Pick Up One Win At Falcon Regatta

Central Oklahoma Wins Varsity 4+ B Final In Race Of Nation's Best Boats

SEATTLE – No. 3 Central Oklahoma picked up one win on Saturday at the annual Falcon Regatta, hosted by Seattle Pacific on the L.W. Ship Canal.

The Bronchos, which moved up from No. 5 in the country in this past week's College Rowing Coaches Association rankings, won the Varsity 4+ B Final over the host Falcons of SPU.

"We came into the weekend knowing the level of competition would be high, and it absolutely delivered," UCO interim head women's rowing coach Jimmy Francis said. "Racing against some of the top DII programs like Western Washington, Cal Poly Humboldt, and Seattle Pacific gives us a clear picture of where we stand and where we need to go. Our team learned a lot from this experience, and we're excited to apply these lessons as we prepare for the UCO Invite April 5. We're proud of the fight and the learning the team showed today."

The four Great Northwest Athletic Conference rowing programs are all ranked in the top five in the country. Embry-Riddle (Florida) is No. 1 this week, then Humboldt, UCO, Western Washington, and Seattle Pacific. All four schools will meet for the GNAC Championships May 17 in Sacramento, California.

UCO's Varsity 4+ boat got the race day started Saturday morning and finished second to Western Washington with a time of 8:00.5 on the 2,000-meter course. Central's Varsity 8+ also took second to WWU with a time of 7:14.7 in its prelim race.

Both boats went to the B Final for their respective races. This is where the Bronchos picked up their win on the day. UCO beat Seattle Pacific with a time of 8:01.9, a full 14 second in front of the host Falcons. For Central's eights, the Bronchos took second again, this time to SPU, with a 7:19.7 mark, five seconds back of the Falcons.

Central Oklahoma hosts the UCO Invite April 5 in Edmond.
