No. 13 Bronchos Sweep Final Two Games At Washburn Invitational

UCO Wins First Game on Terin Ritz Homer, Lemos Goes 4-for-4 In Second Game Rout

TOPEKA, Kan. – Terin Ritz belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Central Oklahoma to a dramatic 5-4 victory over Minot State and the No. 13-ranked Bronchos swept a pair of games on the final day of the Washburn Invitational Tuesday.

UCO followed the come-from-behind win with a 9-0 shellacking of Maryville behind Rylee Lemos' four-hit, five RBI outing in its final game. The Bronchos went 5-1 in the three-day event and are now 14-3 on the season.

"Terin came through when we really needed her" said head coach Cody White, whose team stayed 13th in the new NFCA rankings that came out today. "I'm really proud of the way the girls stayed focused after getting down and we made a great comeback.

"Rylee had an amazing game against Maryville. There isn't a better lead-off hitter in the country with everything she brings to the table. It was a good weekend for us."

Ritz was cruising along with a two-hitter and UCO led 2-0 going to the top of the sixth when the Beavers struck for four runs on two hits, a walk and a grand slam to surge in front 4-2.

The Bronchos got one run back in the bottom of the inning on freshman Makenzie Fithian's first career homer, then won it in dramatic fashion in the seventh.

Kennedy Clark ignited the comeback with a one-out single to center field and Ritz followed with her third homer of the season, this one a deep drive to left-center field to give UCO the win.

Ritz's heroics gave the pitching win to Jordyn Pipkin, who came on in relief in the sixth. The senior right-hander got the final out of that inning with a strikeout, then fanned three straight in the seventh in moving to 2-0.

The Bronchos broke a scoreless tie in the fourth. Emily Deramus led off with a double to left-center, Ariah Mitchell followed with an infield single and Deramus scooted home on a double steal.

UCO made it 2-0 in the fifth when Lemos led off with a single, stole second, advanced to third on Rylee Anglen's bunt single and scored on Clark's fielder's choice.

Lemos went 3-for-4 to pace an 11-hit attack, while Clark had two hits.

Lemos was the catalyst in the rout of Maryville, going 4-for-4 with two homers and five RBI.

The junior standout doubled to start the game and scored on Anglen's double, with Anglen coming home on an error to make it 2-0.

The Bronchos broke it open in the second with a four-run outburst. Lemos had a two-run single, Anglen an RBI groundout and Clark a sacrifice fly as the lead grew to 6-0.

Lemos continued her offensive onslaught with a lead-off homer to right-center in the third and added a two-run shot in the sixth to make it a 9-0 advantage.

UCO finished with 13 hits, getting four from Lemos and two apiece from Scott and Ryan.

Shelby Beard gave up four hits in pitching the first four innings, striking out seven and walking two in staying perfect at 8-0. Sydney Ward put Minot down in order in the sixth to finish off the game.

UCO goes back on the road this weekend for four games Friday and Saturday in the Branson Showtime Classic in Branson, Mo.
