No. 13 Bronchos To Host Raising Cane's Festival

Schedule Changes Has UCO Playing Twice Friday and Once Monday

EDMOND – Winter weather has played havoc with the Raising Cane's Softball Festival schedule this weekend, with No. 13-ranked Central Oklahoma now slated to play three games over a four-day span at Gerry Pinkston Stadium.

The Bronchos, 7-1 on the season, will take on Arkansas Tech (6-5) at 1:15 p.m. and Southwestern Oklahoma (5-3) at 5:45 on Friday before meeting Rockhurst (0-0) at noon Monday. UCO was originally slated to play five games over a three-day span.

Teams will also compete Friday at Piedmont High School and in Shawnee.

"We had to move a lot of things around to try and accommodate the teams that were coming in and fortunately we're not going to lose every game," head coach Cody White said. "The weather doesn't look good for Saturday and Sunday, so we decided to do what we could on Friday and then picked up one game Monday.

"Obviously we haven't been able to practice much outside this week, but there's not much you can do about that. We're looking forward to getting back at it tomorrow."

ABOUT THE BRONCHOS: Central made its home debut last weekend, going 3-1 in the UCO/OC Classic. The Bronchos beat Western New Mexico (11-3), Missouri S&T (10-2) and then-No. 20 Southern Nazarene (3-0) while dropping a 12-7 decision to Oklahoma Baptist.

UCO is hitting .350 as a team and is averaging 7.5 runs a game.

Four players are batting .400 or better – Brooklyn Ryan (.455), Terin Ritz (.450), Rylee Lemos (.440) and Rylee Anglen (.400).

Ryan has smacked a pair of solo home runs, while Ritz has three doubles, two triples, one homer and 15 runs batted in. Ritz owns a .950 slugging percentage and has jumped to sixth on the school's career RBI list with 149.

Lemos has two doubles, two homers, one triple and seven RBI, with Anglen having one double, one triple and five RBI.

The Bronchos own a 2.96 team earned run average, with all six pitchers having seen action in the early going. UCO is giving up 3.9 runs a game.

Shelby Beard tops the pitching staff with a 4-0 record and 0.57 ERA, having allowed just two runs (one earned) in 12.1 innings with 11 strikeouts. Ritz is 2-1 with a 2.06 ERA and has walked just one batter in a team-high 17.0 innings.

UCO's defense has also been strong in the early going. The Bronchos have committed just five errors in eight games.
